Nous Vous Remercions

One thing we have noticed everywhere - and it is probably a holdover from the celebrations here in June to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, is that everywhere there are "thank you" signs posted in villages, flags of the Allies flying, decorated windows, wreaths and poppies everywhere, murals on the side of the roads, and even, in some cases, pictures of some of the soldiers themselves posted on poles.  The following are photos I took when we visited Arromanches and the last one was on a window next to the grocery store in the little village of Asnelles where we stayed.  What great tributes and ways of keeping history alive.

This mural was so realistic Kath thought the girls were real when we saw this from
the restaurant where we had lunch.

In addition, it is truly wonderful to see the huge number of school children being herded around in groups to learn all about this part of France's history.  We were impressed - and have had a wonderful and informative time here.  At times, however, the emotion is simply overwhelming when you try to take in everything that happened here.  So, we decided we were ready to move on a bit earlier than planned.  Yesterday (Tuesday) we left one day early and headed west and then south for a change of scenery.
